When a taxi smashed into Phoenix police officer Jason Schechterle’s patrol car in 2001, the fireball that consumed the vehicle should have killed him.
But by a series of small miracles, Schechterle survived, suffering fourth degree burns to more than 40 percent of his body and drastically changing his appearance.
He wrote about his long ordeal to recovery in “Burning Shield: Rebirth after Unimaginable Adversity.”
