VerdeCares is stepping up

VerdeCares is reaching out to the community to present the mental health message marking May as Mental Health Awareness Month.

During the week of May 6 to May 10, VerdeCares will explore emotional well-being and mental health, and during that week residents are invited to visit verdecares.org each day to learn more about this essential message.

“Your mental health is just as important as your physical,” said VerdeCares Executive Director Vicki Beseke. “One in four adults experience issues with mental health. On May 6, we’ll explore the life changes that impact the mental health of seniors as they age.”

Although many people will adjust to life changes, some may experience feelings of grief, social isolation or loneliness. See how this can be linked to high blood pressure, cognitive decline and more.

On May 7, VerdeCares will share the signs/symptoms to watch for if concerned about the mental health of oneself or a loved one. It’s important to remember that struggling with basic tasks isn’t always just a sign of getting older.

On May 8, hear some ideas to help one get and stay connected. Everyone needs social connections to survive and thrive. But, with age, people often find themselves spending even more time alone.

On May 9, learn the steps needed to find out if a loved one might need help. It’s normal to move at a slower pace when getting older, but a noticeable change in mood or memory could signal something more serious.

On May 10, VerdeCares will share resources available and treatment options to help manage and improve quality of life.

VerdeCares office hours are Monday through Thursday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For more information regarding the messages shared on verdecares.org during the week of May 6-10, or would like printouts of the information, please contact the VerdeCares office at 480-471-8944.
