Medical support funding underway to help local woman

Michele Hasley, director of Griever’s Journey, a grief support ministry program, has always been the first to come to the aid of her Presbyterian Church family members and grief-stricken individuals.

Now, the shoe is on the other foot. Hasley has been diagnosed with malignant melanoma and needs financial support for surgery.

A close friend, Cheryl Kenna, has created a GoFundMe page for necessary surgery.

“Some people in this world are ‘extreme givers.’

They’re not as concerned with what they can get as much as they’re concerned with what they can give. Michele is one of those people,” explained Kenna in the introduction to the online site.

“For givers, life is comfortable when they are giving. They have the unique ability to see things through the receiver’s eyes. And when the receiver is blessed, the giver is more blessed.”

“There is a problem with this, however. When a giver is in the position of having to be a receiver, it is difficult. Things are topsy-turvy. In the giver’s eyes, this is not how it should be. But it is the way that it is.”

Hasley needs $90,000 for surgery to save her life. The operation would remove the disease from her lymph nodes.

“I have no insurance and we are on a fixed income,” said Hasley. “To go from hearing the word ‘terminal’ in reference to your prognosis to now having some options that might do more than just give me more time is overwhelming, to say the least. Feeling blessed.”

Donations can be submitted to gofundme.com/michele039s-surgery.
