First responders at the scene said there may be large rocks in the road, and motorists are urged to use alternate routes between Rio Verde from Fountain Hills.
A strong storm blew through the area late Tuesday, resulting in flooding, as well as some wind damage. Occasional thunderstorms are expected to last through 5:15 p.m. Tuesday.

McDowell Mountain Road closes due to flash flood

With more than a inch of rain falling in the McDowell Mountains and running off toward the Verde River McDowell Mountain Road between Fountain Hills and Rio Verde had to be closed Tuesday afternoon due to flash floods.
First responders at the scene said there may be large rocks in the road, and motorists are urged to use alternate routes between Rio Verde from Fountain Hills.
A strong storm blew through the area late Tuesday, resulting in flooding, as well as some wind damage. Occasional thunderstorms are expected to last through 5:15 p.m. Tuesday.
Town Development Services Director Paul Mood said the water had subsided and they were able to reopen the road within Fountain Hills at about 4:30 p.m. Motorists are urged to use caution as debris remains in the roadway.
