Mayor's State-of-the-Town Thursday
Posted
Mayor Linda Kavanagh will present her State-of-the-Town address this week at the opening of the regular Town Council session on Thursday, Feb. 20.
The public is invited to a reception in the Town Hall lobby prior to the meeting beginning at 5:30 p.m.
The meeting agenda includes consideration of an amendment to the professional services agreement with HDR Engineering in the amount of $135,202 related to the Shea Boulevard improvement project.
Changes to the scope of work were requested by the town and include drainage structures, traffic signal interconnect conduit, changes to the project eastern boundary due to recent ADOT work and modifications to the project limits and pavement profile on Saguaro Boulevard. These changes are the result of the Saguaro bond approval.
The amendment also includes HDRs involvement in the bid process and engineering services during construction.
Staff anticipates completion of the construction documents to allow bidding of the project in May this year.
The council will consider a resolution expressing its support for restoration of Highway User Revenue Funds distribution to cities, towns, counties and state highways.
The HURF fund was established in 1974 to make funds available for highway construction and transportation in Arizona. HURF monies are collected from gasoline and use fuel taxes, motor carrier fees, vehicle license tax, motor vehicle registration fees and other fees.
Since 2009 the State Legislature has swept HURF monies to be used for other state budget items. The loss to the Town of Fountain Hills has been approximately $1.4 million reducing available funds for street construction and maintenance.
The resolution urges the governor and legislature to restore HURF funding to the full amount outlined by the 1974 statute.
The council meets Thursday, Feb. 20, at 6:30 p.m. in council chambers at Town Hall. The meeting is open to the public.
