After learning about Max’s Community Closet in The Times, I just had to check it out.
Driving east on Shea, I turned right on Technology Drive, and another right on Laser Drive. About a block down on the right I saw a sign near an industrial complex drive, so I parked there. In a very nondescript door next to Extended Hands Food Bank, there it was.
It’s a rather small, narrow space jam packed with piles of everything you can imagine. There are racks with shelves of nicely folded children’s clothing, racks of hanging clothes, shelves of household odds and ends and boxes of wall hangings. There are decorative accessories, furniture, electronics and appliances.

There are treasures if you look carefully. I spotted an exquisite set of china, a gorgeous fashion doll on a stand, some high end ladies clothing from Chico’s and Coldwater Creek, as well as a tall wrought iron candlestick and other great items.
The goods cannot be showcased as they deserve because the place is too small! Different items are set out weekly, and I can’t wait to check things out next week. The very best thing about it all is Max donates all the profits to the food bank, so the proceeds stay right here.
I urge everyone to check them out. It is open on Friday and Saturdays, 8 a.m.-1 p.m.; 480-580-2889.
