Mary Diana Savittieri, our loving mother and Nana, was taken from us on May 5, 2018, and is now with her love, ‘Philly,’ and the angels. She was 85.
Mary was born in Toronto, Canada, after her family migrated there from northern Italy. She came to Phoenix as a child, became a U.S. citizen, and grew up in the Arcadia-area. She attended St. Mary’s High School, and shortly after graduation, married her ‘lover.’
Together, they raised four children and multiple grandchildren. Mary was one of the first residents of Fountain Hills and she was very active within the community, including with the Church of the Ascension where she taught catechism classes.
In her free time, Mary enjoyed summers by the pool, taking her family to Balboa, Calif., a good martini, baking and cooking Italian food for her family, quilting, card games, traveling with her husband, and attending Arizona State University football games.
She was the matriarch of our family and she loved a big, Italian family Christmas. Our Nana will be deeply missed by all who knew her, including her family. Mary leaves behind two sisters, Diana Rich and Sandra Bertoia; her three daughters, Terryl Lynne, Allyson, Kimberly; and son, Chris; grandchildren, Tiffany Davila; Troy Davila; Franco Savittieri and Sam Savittieri, along with multiple great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 62-years, Philip and her mother, Elda Bertoia.
Mary’s viewing was held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 10, 2018 at Messinger Mortuary in Fountain Hills followed by a service at Church of the Ascension.
