Marie Johnson

Marie Johnson, 91, of Fountain Hills passed quietly and peacefully on Aug. 24, 2016.

Marie graduated from Mound High School, Minn., in 1942 and spent the majority of her life living on Lake Virginia, just west of Excelsior with her beloved husband Clyde of 55 years. They truly enjoyed their life that resembled that of the story, On Golden Pond. They moved to Fountain Hills in 1997, and loved the community and endless sunny days.

She was loved by family and friends, and will be remembered for her kindness and friendly personality, which brought out the best in everyone. She was blessed with many lifelong friends and her close ties to the Fountain Hills community. All will miss her brand of home-cooked meals and delicious baked goods.

Marie is survived by son, Doug, and his wife, Tricia, and grandchildren Christine and Danny.

She was one of four children of parents Henry and Elizabeth Ess of St. Bonifacius, Minn. She is also survived by her brother, Kenny Ess, and extended family.

We will celebrate Marie’s life at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 1, at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary, 1265 N. Saguaro Blvd, Fountain Hills, 85268, with a prayer service and gathering after.

She will be joining her husband, Clyde, at The National Cemetery of Arizona. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Hospice of the Valley, Eckstein Center, with our thanks to all.
