The Fountain Hills High School Fighting Flock of Falcon Fury marching band marched in its first competition in over four years on Saturday, Oct. 29. They took home two plaques for the first time in seven years, and won first place in general effect and second place overall in their division.
Jan Garnder was brought in last May to direct the band program at the high school and middle school. He designed show movements and started practicing music at a summer band camp so the Falcons would be prepared for their first competition in time.
No Falcon had performed in a competition setting before, but senior drum major Chris Towne said each halftime performance at home football games helped them overcome their stage fright.
