Want to spend a glorious autumn morning outside in the fresh air, and help a neighbor as well?
This Saturday, Oct. 25, is the annual Make a Difference Day sponsored by the Town of Fountain Hills.
Over the past several years this annual event has helped hundreds of Fountain Hills residents who are elderly or disabled get work done around the house. This year there are several wheelchair ramps to be constructed for residents.
In 2013 there were 3.4 million people volunteering for service projects in their communities nationwide.
In a proclamation declaring Saturday Make a Difference Day in Fountain Hills, Mayor Linda Kavanagh said, “Connecting with others and working together through volunteer service can bridge the differences that separate people and help solve serious social problems.”
The event organizer is town Volunteer Coordinator Heather Ware and she says she has more than 40 projects lined up and needs the help to accomplish the work.
Residents can contact Ware in advance to get their name assigned to a team, or just show up Saturday morning to register.
As of last week Ware needed some help with the organization of the event. She needed people to work check-in tables from 7 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. at Golden Eagle Park.
Others are needed to distribute T-shirts to participants between 7 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. at Golden Eagle Park. The first 200 to be registered will receive a T-shirt.
Help is also needed to set up and oversee food and beverage tables from 7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. at Golden Eagle Park.
Someone needs to stand guard at dumpsters – there will be shade and chairs – to direct people to drop off debris in the correct dumpster from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.
Everyone is encouraged to participate in this nationwide event. You will be helping residents who are elderly or disabled to get things done around their home. Also, there will be some park projects.
Contact Ware for additional information at 816-5108 or hware@fh.az.gov.
