The debate over the lighting in Fountain Park has had some legs this past year, with residents still arguing over whether or not they should have been installed in the first place.
No matter what side of that argument you fall on, the lights have been installed, and removing them would be a huge waste of time and resources.

The debate over the lighting in Fountain Park has had some legs this past year, with residents still arguing over whether or not they should have been installed in the first place.
No matter what side of that argument you fall on, the lights have been installed, and removing them would be a huge waste of time and resources.
However, we do believe that you should always get what you pay for and, according to a group that recently addressed the Town Council, that might not be the case with the Fountain Park lighting.
Spurred on by the fact that so many individuals were complaining about the way the lights shined at eye level, thus hampering night vision rather than assisting it, the group discovered that the lights that were installed might not be the shielded models that the Town actually purchased. They clearly did a lot of leg work pulling their argument together, presenting the council with packets intended to support their claim. Whether or not they are correct about the wrong lights being installed is now up to the Town to investigate.
We’d like to see the night skies remain as vivid as ever, but we also feel that something needed to be done to make such a large, public area safer at night. If the lights are not achieving that goal, that’s a problem. But if they aren’t achieving that goal because the wrong lights were installed, then that is an issue that needs to be addressed.
