Legislators

Our Legislators are actively working this session to make it more difficult for the people to use the Citizen Initiative Process in our state. This process is guaranteed in the Arizona State Constitution. Our Legislators do not like the process, because it makes it difficult for them to overrule what the people have decided should be law. They feel that they know best and we should butt out.

Senator John Kavanagh has proposed Senate Concurrent Resolution 1013 which, according to The Arizona Republic, could make it harder to collect required signatures.

Representative Michelle Ugenti-Rita has proposed the attacks on the process, House Bill 2320, House Concurrent Resolution 2002, and House Concurrent Resolution 2007. She would like to have us remove the Voter Protection Act and/or remove citizen referenda from voter protection.

Other Legislators have other proposals that would make it more difficult to gather signatures. None of those would apply to the signature gathering for elected office. Apparently they don’t want to impact their ability to get elected, but do want to make it difficult for the people to propose actions.

Check out these and other actions our state Legislators are working on to allow them to do as they wish, and ignore the will of the people. Let them know how you feel, and remind them that they work for us.
