Two men were hospitalized after their vehicle collided with a palm tree in the median on Fountain Hills Boulevard just north of Shea Boulevard around 9:30 p.m.
Deputies arriving at the scene found the passenger unconscious but were able to talk with the driver. The man said he was traveling north from Shea Boulevard when he lost control of his vehicle as he encountered a second vehicle at the point where two lanes merge to one. The vehicle went into the median and struck a tree.

The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office Vehicular Crimes Unit was called to the scene of an accident in Fountain Hills on Saturday, Jan. 11.
Two men were hospitalized after their vehicle collided with a palm tree in the median on Fountain Hills Boulevard just north of Shea Boulevard around 9:30 p.m.
Deputies arriving at the scene found the passenger unconscious but were able to talk with the driver. The man said he was traveling north from Shea Boulevard when he lost control of his vehicle as he encountered a second vehicle at the point where two lanes merge to one. The vehicle went into the median and struck a tree.
Deputies reported a witness said he saw the vehicle go into the tree, but there was no second vehicle.
Deputies did a preliminary breath test on the driver at the scene and it registered .113, according to the report. The accident is being investigated as alcohol related.
Both men had to be mechanically extricated from the vehicle and were transported to Scottsdale hospitals for treatment.
*On Sunday, Jan. 12, a Fountain Hills man reported a Colt handgun missing from his residence in the 17000 block of San Marcus Drive. The gun had a value of $700.
*On Tuesday, Dec. 31, a Fountain Hills man reported the theft of a rifle with a scope from his residence in the 16000 block of Last Trail Drive.
*On Saturday, Jan. 11, deputies investigated a two-vehicle accident at La Montana Drive and El Lago Boulevard. A driver making a left turn from La Montana onto El Lago collided with a vehicle traveling east bound through the intersection.
*On Tuesday, Dec. 31, deputies were called to a two-vehicle collision on Shea Boulevard at Center drive. It was a minor rear-end collision and the woman in the back vehicle said she was distracted trying to follow directions on GPS. She was cited for reckless driving.
*On Wednesday, Jan. 15, a resident of the 15000 block of Kim Drive reported construction equipment valued at $1,041 was stolen from next to his house while he was away between Dec. 21 and Jan. 14. He had ladders and scaffolding in an unsecured area of the yard.
*The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office in Fountain Hills has received a number of reports in recent weeks related to burglaries and thefts from vehicles parked on the street or in driveways. A significant number of these vehicles were not locked. Deputies urge everyone, when leaving a vehicle unattended, to remove all valuables and lock the doors.
