Joseph C. Dandreaux passed away peacefully on Sept. 19, 2014 at the age of 95. He is survived by Marian, his loving wife of 68 years; son, Michael; granddaughter, Danielle; grandson, Bryan/fiancé Sara; great grandchildren, Alexandria (Alex) and Zona Rhea; and an extended family of nieces and nephews.

Joe was born Jan. 20, 1919 in Woodhaven, N.Y. to Marie Biemer Dandreaux and Francis Dandreaux. He was a patriotic American who served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps during WWII, spending 39 months overseas in Africa, Europe and the Pacific.

He received a number of awards including two Combat Zone Stars and Presidential Unit Citations, one for his service in Africa, and one for his service in Europe, including France and Belgium.

After his discharge in December 1945, he returned home and married his sweetheart, Marian Krepela, in 1946. He also began his lifelong career with the New York Telephone Co. that same year.

He later attended Hofstra University and New York University, from which he graduated in 1966. During his career he worked his way up from repairman/installer to the Telephone Business Office where he handled sales and communications for the New York World’s Fair of 1964-1965, multiple Democratic National Conventions, as well as the three major broadcasters: ABC, CBS and NBC.

He retired in 1981 and he and Marian moved to Fountain Hills where he met many wonderful people and enjoyed playing golf, bowling, visiting and dining with his friends.

He and Marian also enjoyed traveling all over the U.S. together and with friends. He was one of the founding members who were instrumental in establishing American Legion Post No. 58 in Fountain Hills.

He and Marian also built a home in northern Arizona where they enjoyed spending time with their wonderful friends and neighbors.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Church of the Ascension, 12615 Fountain Hills Blvd. There will be a celebration of life immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to Hospice of the Valley or Church of the Ascension.
