The Fountain Hills Sanitary District Board of Directors has selected Jerry Butler to fill the vacant seat on its board.

District Manager Ron Huber said the board voted at its October meeting to appoint Butler. He was selected from three candidates.

“It is obvious his experience as an engineer and public service had a great bearing on his selection,” Huber said.

Butler said he offered to serve as a board member to help oversee the continued success of the Sanitary District.

“I am a retired civil engineer who spent the early part of my career in sanitary design, so I recognize the importance and understand the uniqueness of the Fountain Hills Sanitary District,” Butler said. “I (am) interested in exploring cost-effective measures to improve the overall quality of reclaimed water so the effluent will enrich turfs and trees in community parks.

“I will be supportive in promoting the use of potassium chloride in community water softeners and reactivating interest in an Intergovernmental Agreement with the Town relative to the lake water in Fountain Park.”

Butler has been a year-round resident of Fountain Hills since 1999 and a community volunteer.

Prior to retirement from a 40-year career in civil engineering he was registered as a Professional Engineer in 18 states, division president for an international consulting firm of architects, engineers, and planners, and past-president of the Consulting Engineers Council of Missouri.

Butler’s volunteer activities in Fountain Hills include serving on the community’s Strategic Advisory Planning Commission (SPAC); a member of the Downtown Visioning Project and later the chair of its Greening of Downtown program; a member of the Chamber of Commerce’s Business Vitality Advisory Council (BVAC); and co-chair of the VisionFH program.

Currently Jerry serves as treasurer of the Fountain Hills Cultural and Civic Association (FHCCA) and continues to promote the community’s strategic planning initiatives.
