Posted

Jack Elmer Everhart, 96 years of age, left our world on April 17th, 2018 surrounded by love. A unique man, Jack could spin a tale or tell a joke better than anyone. He had a professional career that he adored. He had a love story that most people will never ever come close to. He was whip smart, and he had a moral compass that always pointed north. By all accounts, Jack Everhart was a master in life.

Jack was born July 1, 1922, and was raised in a small town called Moxee City in Washington State. After graduating from Yakima High School, he joined the Navy in 1941 as an enlisted Seaman, attending the University of Washington, University of Iowa, and St. Olaf College to earn his wings at Pensacola.

He spent a total of 20 years as a retired reservist to earn the rank of commander. Jack was one of a few enlisted men to become an officer and be known as a “Mustang.”

He returned to private corporate flying, then went on to work for Boeing as an instructor pilot, training airline pilots all over the world how to fly 727s, 737s and 747 Jumbo Jets, a career he was passionate about.

After retirement, Jack and Barbara took up golf and moved to Fountain Hills. They made many friends along the way. He entertained everyone with his great story-telling ability and delighted everyone with his barbecuing masterpieces.

Jack is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 50 years, Barbara; children, David, Vickie Bailey (Larry), Jack (Gloria), Michael, Dana Stone (Rick), Mark Dolan (Daisy), Thor Dolan (Carol); nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and many dear nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by parents Will and Gladys Everhart; brothers, Jerry and John; sister, Ann; wife Donna, and daughter, Mary.

Our world is a better place that Jack was in it. He will be so greatly missed by his beloved friends and family.

A memorial service will be held at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church on Saturday, May 5, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shepherd of the Hills, 16150 El Lago Blvd, Fountain Hills, AZ 85268.

“There are in the end, three things that last: faith, hope, and love,

And the greatest of these is love.” 1 Corinthians 13:13.
