Is a big raise for Fountain Hills council members necessary?
OPINION – I’m concerned about the council’s plan to potentially increase their stipend by over 80%. What happened to volunteering as public service? In a town where thousands of volunteer hours are completed, do you think folks approve of this raise?
In the past, council members took pride in the fact they were giving of themselves to create a better Fountain Hills. The small stipend helped pay for incidentals they incurred while doing their jobs. I don’t understand why a big raise is necessary at a time when folks are struggling economically.
