Intersection

Last week I witnessed the aftermath of a horrible pedestrian-vehicle accident at Avenue of the Fountains and La Montana Drive.

This incident, seeing a guy lying down on the street, brought back a flood of nightmares for me, since we lost our precious teenaged Ashley in a horrific crash more than a dozen years ago at Fountain Hills and El Lago boulevards.

That incident changed the lives of several families forever, and I don’t want the same thing to happen again.

It took a tragedy such as our daughter’s death to convince the town that traffic lights were needed at that faulty intersection.

What is it going to take to convince town officials that something needs to be done at Avenue of the Fountains and La Montana?

Another tragic and unnecessary death?

We’re all familiar with that intersection. Town Hall is there, with the Community Center and library nearby. All the Avenue shops. The Post Office.

It has to be one of the busiest and definitely the most confusing intersections in all of Fountain Hills.

Even a Sheriff’s deputy told me at the accident scene he agreed this is the town’s worst intersection.

No one knows whose turn it is to proceed. Drivers are turning every which way. And isn’t the town wanting to turn the downtown area into a pedestrian-friendly commercial neighborhood?

Add a few more pedestrians into this deadly mix and who knows what’s going to happen down the road…

We need the Town of Fountain Hills to act – and act now!

Changes are needed at this dangerous intersection. Improve the design. Add traffic lights. Do something! They can find the money to make a change. A lawsuit is going to be more costly than making an improvement.

It’s time to fix this confusing mistake. Let’s make sure all families can have a Merry Christmas for generations to come.
