It is time for town residents to order poinsettias for the Fountain Hills Cultural and Civic Association’s holiday poinsettia tree on the Avenue of the Fountains.
Your flowering plant can be dedicated to the memory of a loved one, or it can honor someone you admire.
The metal frame for the 14-foot tree was made by my friend and neighbor Neal (Skip) Ipema 16 years ago.

The metal frame for the 14-foot tree was made by my friend and neighbor Neal (Skip) Ipema 16 years ago.
I knew he had a metal shop, and I told him that we wanted a live poinsettia tree, but I didn’t know where we could buy the frame.
He said, “No problem,” and set about constructing a tree that can be assembled in three pieces (thus making it easy to store), as well as enough rings to hold 220 six and one-half inch pots. Our community has enjoyed the beauty of this tree since 1999.
Ten days ago Skip Ipema passed away after suffering a stroke.
You are sorely missed, my friend. But the beauty of your tree will endure for years to come. Thank you so very much.
