In Fountain Hills, some residents appear ‘more equal’ than others

OPINION – Our Declaration of Independence states, in part, “all men are created equal.” However, for certain speakers at Town Council meetings, it’s closer to the famous line from George Orwell’s novella Animal Farm: “All animals are created equal, but some animals are more equal than others.”

Take Wendy Dachel’s comments during call to the public at the Oct. 7 council meeting. Ms. Dachel stated that naming the Fountain Hills Community Center after Charlie Kirk was abhorrent. She gave her reasons by listing things Mr. Kirk said. “Lie”, yelled Ben Larrabee. No gavel from the Mayor.

“Point of Order, what does this have to do with the Town?” asked Councilmember Larrabee. Then Friedel pounded his gavel saying, “This isn’t directly related to the town.” The topic was re-naming the Community Center. How can that possibly not be directly related to the town?
