Sometime in the next few days, all of us who are registered voters in Fountain Hills will receive, in the mail, an election ballot containing three issues; two bond issues requested by the local School Board and an $8.2 million bond issue to rebuild Saguaro Boulevard.
If you are a regular reader of these letters to the editor you have seen several letters over the last few weeks urging support for the Saguaro Boulevard street bond.
You have been told how Saguaro Boulevard is our oldest and most heavily traveled collector street, how it has long since outlived its useful life and how important it is to our community to pass the bond issue so that this street can be rebuilt.

Shortly after the Town Council authorized this bond issue I received a call asking if I would help put together a non-partisan citizens committee to promote the issue.
The town and town employees are forbidden by law from advocating for or against an issue like this or spending town funds to do so.
But I had no problem putting together a strong group of active residents willing to work on this issue. They included our current mayor and all of us who are former mayors, our sheriff, our state representative, educators, young people, retired people, people active in the Republican and Democratic political parties, leaders of many of our non-profit organizations, supporters from the Chamber of Commerce, many others.
Everyone understands how important it is for the vitality of our community to get this key road back to top condition. I hope you understand this as well.
Oh yes, as others will tell you, the school bond/override issues are important as well. They also need a “yes” vote.
