OPINION — It’s clear after three years of infighting that the Fountain Hills council’s idea of governance borders on ideological warfare.
They are defiling Fountain Hills’ values with anti-DEI and official language (English, por supuesto) resolutions. Altering the call to the public process by moving it to the end of the meeting and limiting scope violates transparency. Limiting the amount of time that any (maybe even “certain”) councilpersons may speak on a subject violates elected representation. Eliminating councilperson reports, where leaders can describe their duties and responsibilities, seems retributive.
Continued “points of order” by councilpersons limits meaningful council discussion. “Calling for the question” stops council’s further discussion. Explaining a vote is not an opportunity to criticize other councilpersons. Passing an ordinance about 5G or resolutions about what the legislature should do has no binding authority. The mayor’s constant gaveling of other councilpersons when speaking shows poor leadership skills. Questioning a person’s residency and motivations is discriminatory.
