Religious freedom and the lagoon. The issues have nothing in common, except that they’re both "hot topics." The First Amendment to the Constitution guarantees “free exercise" of religion, but we’ve seen multiple attempts to limit or abolish this guarantee. Religious freedom has been the subject of much debate, legal/regulatory action, court cases and a recent Executive Order. Locally, in Fountain Hills, we’ve heard and read much about the proposed lagoon project in Fountain Park. Residents have some strong opinions on the proposal. Hot topics deserve attention and discussion, and these two topics certainly qualify.

Fountain Hills AZ Tea Party meets on the third Thursday of the month. On Thursday evening, Oct. 19, we will address religious freedom and the lagoon. Alliance Defending Freedom is a local, nationally-recognized organization deeply involved in the defense of religious freedom. Neville Verster, a representative of ADF, will discuss what has been and can be done to defend this critical right. We're also hosting “Lagoon Talk.” Councilman Art Tolis will present his thoughts on the lagoon proposal, and we invite attendees to share their opinions and concerns. This will be a civil forum and an opportunity for continuing discussion.

Since October 2010, Fountain Hills AZ Tea Party has provided you with convenient local access to elected officials and other authorities on important current issues, policies, and government. The meeting will be held at Fountain Hills Unified School District Learning Center (NE corner, Golden Eagle and Palisades) starting at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 19. As always, all interested parties are welcome to attend the meeting and participate. Admission is still free, but donations to cover expenses are gratefully accepted and appreciated. Come, listen, learn, ask, bring a friend. We hope to see you there. For more info, visit fhteaparty.us.
