A Fountain Hills couple somehow became the fifth and sixth victims of a man on a rampage of revenge whose killing spree stretched across the Valley beginning May 31 and ended Sunday in Fountain Hills.

Police officials from six agencies including the FBI and ATF gathered for a press conference Monday afternoon to go over the murder spree after the suspect, Dwight Jones, 56, was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound after police closed in at a Scottsdale hotel near Shea Boulevard and Scottsdale Road.

Scottsdale Assistant Chief of Police Rich Slavin provided details of the investigation. However, as of Monday afternoon the Fountain Hills scene was still under investigation and the victims had not been identified.

Slavin said they are uncertain how the Fountain Hills victims are connected to the suspect and the other murders. However, after police identified Jones as their suspect it became known that he had been in the area of the home in the 14900 block of Kit Fox Place.

Scottsdale Police asked the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office to respond and check on the residents. Deputies went to the residence and received no response. Using a ladder they reached a window where they could look in and were able to see the male victim.

Upon forcing entry into the home they found a woman as the second victim.

Sometime after the shooting in Fountain Hills police located the suspect and put him under surveillance. They observed him putting a package into a trash bin and walking away. The package contained a handgun that Slavin said belonged to the Fountain Hills victims.

Slavin said the shooting rampage apparently stemmed from a messy divorce between Jones and his wife in 2010. The victims all had a connection to that divorce arrangement including a forensic psychologist and legal representation.

Original story:

The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office along with Scottsdale Police is investigating a homicide incident in Fountain Hills on Kit Fox Place on Monday morning.

A spokesman for MCSO has confirmed the investigation, but said there were no further details available as of 10:30 a.m.

Other media outlets in the Valley are reporting there is believed to be a connection between the Fountain Hills incident and a series of murders involving legal and mental health professionals over the past several days.

There were four victims in those incidents and the suspect is reported to have died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound as police closed in on his hotel room near Shea Boulevard and Scottsdale Road Monday morning.
