The L. Alan Cruikshank River of Time annual “funraiser” Holiday Mart 2023 shopping event has taken over the center with gently used holiday décor, wreaths and a variety of Christmas trees creatively displayed for purchase by savvy shoppers.

The sale is in full-swing Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Dec. 9, or until sold out.

Holiday Mart is the River of Time’s largest fundraiser which generated more than $20,000 last year.

All year long, busy elves (River of Time volunteers), source, transport, sort and price hundreds of items at “Santa’s Warehouse” (River of Time storage).

A week before the sale opens, local moving company Little Moves, Inc., packs up the warehouse and transports everything to the center. A whole new crew joins the busy elves and together they unpack and display the items generously donated by the community which is magically ready for opening day.

Holiday Mart was the brainchild of one of the River of Time’s original volunteers, Arlie Denomme. Now in its ninth year, the shopping extravaganza continues to generate income for the River of Time’s operations.

Profits from this year’s event will fund the operational budget for 2024 allowing expanded programming and new events.

The Riverbanks Gift Shop can add to the shopping experience where visitors will discover a selection of new gift items all focused on the Southwest and incorporate the River of Time exhibit stories.

A range of illustrated children’s books and fluffy plush animals are featured along with jewelry by local artists at a range of prices. Members will receive a 10% discount on all items in the Riverbanks Gift Shop.

The River of Time is open for visitors during Holiday Mart hours. This is an opportunity to explore the many exhibits and finish holiday shopping in one stop.
