A strong monsoon storm moved across the Valley late Tuesday afternoon dumping significant rain in parts of Fountain Hills. The largest amounts of rain fell south of Shea Boulevard. The rain gauge at The Times office on Laser Drive collected 1.8 inches from the storm, while others in the neighborhood reported more than 2 inches. At the Palisades Boulevard Fire Station near the center of town the Flood Control District monitoring site collected .59-inch.
The rain began shortly before 6 p.m. and came down hard for most of an hour. Street flooding was reported in the area south of Shea. Street Department crews were out early Wednesday morning cleaning up debris and dirt along Saguaro Boulevard between Shea Boulevard and Powderhorn Drive.
