What a stark contrast between the mayoral debate and last week’s town council forum hosted by the Chamber and FHCCA!
It was a breath of fresh air to see candidates answering questions directly and actually paying respect to each other during the process. And the audience was able to participate as well and did not degenerate into catcalls and bickering.
The candidate who stood out the most to me was Mike Scharnow. His sense of humor and candid remarks would be a welcome improvement to the town council. His common sense approach to governance is due to his long history of involving himself in local government at all levels.

As the previous award-winning editor of The Fountain Hills Times, Mike distinguishes himself as a true leader due to his historical knowledge of local issues. He will listen to citizens’ concerns and work to come up with a solution.
Did you know he was the founding chairman of the original Parks and Recreation Commission for the town going back to 1990? After he was named editor, he felt it best to resign to avoid any appearances of a conflict of interest.
It shows he cares about the Town of Fountain Hills and its future. It shows he believes in this town and wants to restore trust back into local government. It shows he has a passion for local control and what this municipality is all about. He loves this town and only wants to improve it.
