Harry Potter fans are invited to Church of the Ascension Tuesday evening, Jan. 29, to take part in “Harry Potter Book Night,” an international event celebrating the works of author J.K. Rowling. This free event is set to begin at 6 p.m. and participants are invited to wear their best wizarding wardrobe on this visit to Hogwarts.

According to an announcement from organizer Cheryl Hentz, the event is planned to celebrate the books that inspired the imagination of a generation, as well as introduce a whole new generation to the magic of reading.

“Here at Ascension, young wizards, witches and Muggles will be treated to an evening of magical games, readings from our favorite ‘Harry Potter’ books and the Hidden Hogwarts Quiz,” Hentz said. “It all begins when the Sorting Hat decides who will be in which house, and houses will be competing for house points throughout the evening.”

Prizes for the best costume and house cup will also be handed out. Church of the Ascension staff will be decorating the venue and serving up snacks inspired by some of the scrumptious wizard foods in the books.

“It is not necessary to have read any ‘Harry Potter’ books,” Hentz continue. “It is a night to listen to excerpts from the various books, have fun and possibly get inspired to possibly read a book or two in the future (or read them over and over again). We are so excited to be joining up with schools, libraries, bookshops and community centers throughout the UK and Ireland, and indeed the world, to celebrate the fifth Harry Potter Book Night.”
