$2.2M for dirt trail? I’m just a relocated Okie, been here in the community almost five years. I keep hearing from the local politicos that there is no money, yet somehow they find money ($2.2M) for essentially a dirt trail (Adero Canyon)! Why not give $500K as block grant to the Sierra Club to solicit volunteers and corporate sponsors to get the trail built; you can name it after the corporate sponsor. Then you would have $1.5M to spend on roads, sidewalks or even an improved Senior Center.
Why is it that people here immediately turn to the government or higher taxes to get things done? I calculated that the $2.2M is equivalent/guestimate to the yearly property tax from a 1,000 homes. I suspect, that we have too many relocated folks from a Midwestern state (won’t mention) that’s on the verge of bankruptcy.

I moved to Arizona because I thought it was a fiscally conservative state. Since I’ve been here, not once have I heard from any politician, group or council person mention a tax reduction. Our local combined sales tax is one of the highest in the Valley; is there any wonder that half of the community shops outside of the community? Is there any wonder why we can’t get major national retailers to move here?
If you want to invigorate the local businesses, make it an inviting environment for spending whatever money most of us have left after other government agencies take it from us.
