The girls’ soccer squad ended up only having one game in the week leading into winter break, and it turned out to be a massive shootout between the Falcons and their visitors from Scottsdale Christian Academy.
The local ladies managed to stay just ahead of the competition, however, winning their match 4-3.
With a couple of weeks off to relax and enjoy the holidays, the girls won’t return to the pitch until Jan. 5, when they welcome the team from Paradise Valley High School to the local field for a 6 p.m. match.

Soccer matches are typically low-scoring affairs, but apparently someone forgot to pass that information along to Fountain Hills and Scottsdale Christian Academy.
This is a sport where a 3-0 difference can be considered a blowout, and the match hosted out of the local field on Dec. 15 wound up being a 4-3 affair ending in the Falcons’ favor.
“It was an exciting home game for the Lady Falcons on Tuesday evening,” said head coach Alison Mabery.
“The girls started off with the first goal by Leah Carillo. Scottsdale Christian Academy would match her goal, tying it up.”
The Falcons managed to move ever-so-slightly ahead before halftime, though, carrying a 2-1 lead into the second half.
Mabery said that the local squad pulled even further ahead in the second half, with Madison George and Trista Smith lighting up the board with another goal apiece, moving the Falcons to a seemingly comfortable lead of 4-1.
“But SCA would not go down without a fight and, with 10 minutes to go, the score was 4-3,” Mabery added.
The Falcons managed to buckle down on defense until the final whistle, though, and managed to earn their narrow victory heading into winter break.
Leah Carillo ended the game with two assists on the books while keeper Bailey Dumitrescu recorded three saves in the net to earn the win.
