Girl Scouts tour D.C.

Fountain Hills Girl Scout Troop #1059 recently returned from an educational trip to Washington, D.C. Profits from their cookie, fall product and rummage sales and holiday babysitting made this amazing trip possible, according to Troop Leader Nita Blose.

In six days, they were able to take a tour of the White House; visit Arlington Cemetery and see the changing of the guards at the Tomb of the Unknown Solider; visit the Smithsonian Natural History and American History museums; take an evening tour experiencing the World War II, Washington, Lincoln, Martin Luther King, Roosevelt, Vietnam Veterans, Korean Veterans and Iwo Jima memorials; and experience a privately-led tour of the Capitol with intern, Danny, from Arizona Representative David Schweikert’s office.

“We also took in the National Zoo, Spy Museum, Artechouse and Washington Wharf Marina,” Blose added. “The girls learned how to get around on the Metro system and good old-fashion walking.”

Blose said that a Fitbit tracking the group’s steps reported not a single day of the trip was under 20,000 steps.

“What a memorable trip for these girls to end their Girl Scout journey together,” Blose said. “Thank you, Fountain Hills residents, for your generous support of Girl Scouts and our troop’s individual fundraisers; your support made a trip of a lifetime possible.”
