Gerald Samuel Ashmore, 83, passed away Monday, July 29, 2013 in Fountain Hills.

Gerry was born Jan. 15, 1930, in Vermillion, S.D. to Rex and Elsie Ashmore. He attended the University of South Dakota, graduating in 1952, and married Dorothy Grundler that same year.

He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed overseas during the Korean War. Gerry worked in the banking business for his entire career and retired in 1991.

Gerry was an avid golfer and sports fan. He is on his way to a great golf course in heaven with no sand traps or water and generous fairways.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; three children, Daniel Ashmore (Leslie) of Rapid City, S.D., Connie Brezik (Chris) of Casper, Wyo., and Lisa Goos (David) of Scottsdale; and two grandchildren, Kathryn Ashmore and Joseph Ashmore.

Gerry's brother, Gene (Blanche) of Sioux City, Iowa, preceded him in death earlier this year.

Burial will be at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, S.D., and a memorial service will be held at a later date at South Canyon Lutheran Church in Rapid City.

Memorials have been established to Hospice of the Valley in Fountain Hills, Black Hills Children’s Home in Rapid City, and South Canyon Lutheran Church in Rapid City.

Cards may be sent to Lisa Goos at 7938 East Thunderhawk Road, Scottsdale, AZ, 85255.
