In reference to the mass kidnappings in Nigeria Michelle Obama tweeted “#BringBackOur Girls.”

George Will, well- known conservative columnist and Fox news commentator, with great sarcasm made fun of this statement saying terrorists in the wilds of Nigeria must be trembling while reading this tweet as they go on their murderous way.

Rush Limbaugh was even more mean spirited in his criticism of Mrs. Obama.

Then there is Karl Rove making up the story that Hillary Clinton suffered some kind of brain damage as the result of a fall she had in 2012 (interestingly enough, at the time, conservatives said she was faking an injury to avoid testifying at a hearing on Benghazi).

Or, how about the Koch Brothers and their off-the-wall Uncle Sam ads distorting the Affordable Care Act as well as the lie their marketers recently spread regarding funding for the Columbus Ohio Zoo?

To the adage “all’s fair in love and war” could be added “as well as politics.”

However, there are degrees of heat in the kitchen. For example, if Laura Bush had stood on the White House lawn holding up a sign saying “#Bring Back Our Girls,” I cannot think of a single well-known liberal pundit who would have treated her as Msrs. Will and Limbaugh treated Mrs. Obama.

Nor can I come up with the name of even one Democratic political operative of Mr. Rove’s stature who would have manufactured out of whole cloth such a fabrication as he came up with or a progressive billionaire with a Koch Brothers’ predatory mentality.

If the American public was asked “Which party is ‘kinder and gentler,’ the Republicans or the Democrats?,” I believe the Democrats would win hands down. This is one reason why Ann and I are proud to wave the liberal banner.
