The Fountain Hills chapter of the Family History Society of Arizona will meet Monday, Feb. 9.
Guest speaker Suzanne Young Brayer will share information on using the Internet and social media and how it can enhance genealogy and one’s search for your family.
The 9 a.m. meeting will be conducted at the Community Center, 13001 N. La Montana.
A short meeting and discussion about the upcoming annual meeting and seminar hosted by the chapter March 7 will be followed by the guest speaker at 10 a.m.
Following the meeting several members gather at a local restaurant for a no-host lunch and discussion of genealogy and how they are doing.
Brayer is well known in genealogical circles. A graduate of Arizona State University with a bachelor of arts in history, she continued on to receive a master in history/secondary education, also from ASU.
She has been a teacher of history and psychology in Arizona public schools since 1981.
Since 1982, Brayer also has been involved in researching her family history. She and her father worked together for more than 20 years gathering the pieces of their ancestry puzzle.
From Mayflower ancestors to Revolutionary War patriots to 19th century German immigrants, she represents the “melting pot” of American culture.
Brayer is currently president of the Family History Society of Arizona. She is also a member of the West Valley Genealogical Society, The Federation of Genealogical Societies, The Indiana Historical Society, The Arizona Council of Professional Genealogists and the National Genealogical Society.
She has taught genealogy classes on various topics and has given numerous talks around the state.
Her current focus is on genealogical research, teaching and writing. She has recently published her research on the role of John Rhodes in the infamous Tewksbury-Graham Feud of Pleasant Valley, Ariz.
