Four Peaks Women's Club selects family in need

Members of Four Peaks Women’s Club met at Target to shop for one of their favorite projects.

Each year, members do Christmas shopping for a family that currently has a child with cancer. This year, the club shopped for a family of six.

It is that time of year when everyone is enjoying the season, having fun, and celebrating. However, the season is not bright and happy for the many families who have children who are suffering.

It is that time of year when everyone is enjoying the season, having fun, and celebrating. However, the season is not bright and happy for the many families who have children who are suffering.

“We try to bring some happiness to these families and help them out at this time of year,” said Joyce Stehlik, co-chair of the project with Barbara Hansen.

Hansen said, “Most of us, our mothers and grandmothers and we, try to understand the heartache of these families and we want to ease some of this pain during the holidays.”

The co-chairs expressed their sincere appreciation to Target for the immense support they have given to the club in this yearly shop-a-thon.

Children’s Cancer Network is a non-profit organization assisting children afflicted with cancer and their families. The organization has numerous activities throughout the year in an attempt to counteract the emotional, social and economic impact this disease has on the children and their families.

CCN supports the children and families throughout their cancer journey with programs and services designed to provide financial assistance, promote education, encourage healthy lifestyles and create an awareness of issues they face related to childhood cancer.

Some of the programs and services include a Basic Needs Program (gas, food, bus passes, cafeteria passes); Adopt a Family programs (holiday surprises, back to school, bed program); scholarships; Admission Bag program; It’s all About You Health and Wellness; wig program; Patient and Family Education; CCN Café (a program for parents); What’s your Wish? (A program for siblings); advocacy and research.
