Four Peaks Women start new project

Four Peaks Women’s Club has a new service project.

The Pajama Program was kicked off at the recent monthly meeting at the home of Jackie Kolwaite.

Club member Mary Kay Flynn spoke to the members about this worthwhile project. The ladies at the meeting all attended the meeting in “pajamas” to feel the spirit of the evening. They also brought 40 pairs of pajamas and 68 books for children.

Flynn shared with the group a flyer from Arizona Chapter President Lucia Wheeler who explained the program at length.

According to Wheeler, “In 2001, Genevieve Piturro, Pajama Program’s founder, discovered the children she read to at a local shelter did not have a caring adult to tuck them in to bed each night, let alone a pair of warm, comforting pajamas to change into or a storybook to enjoy before the night descended. Instead, she saw children often relegated to sleeping on a cot or futon, two or three together, still wearing their clothes of the day.

“Bedtime is a vulnerable time for every child, but for millions in America, it is especially sensitive. For these children who don’t know a loving home environment or who live unstable lives in unsafe situations, the treasured bedtime ritual most of us grew up with is unknown. By focusing on a comforting bedtime routine for children, we seek to help them thrive.”

The Pajama Program relies on donations and fundraising in order to assist these special children. The organization serves all 50 states. Flynn thanked the women for this great start to a new club project.
