The Fountain Hills Town Council has approved payment of $137,573 to settle its portion of a tax lawsuit that was filed against Maricopa County in 2016.
A court found that the Maricopa County Assessor’s Office should have reclassified and recalculated the tax liability of some properties based on whether they were a primary residence or a secondary residence or rental property.
The court decision, upheld by an appeals court in 2021 found that taxpayers must be repaid any overpayment of their taxes. The checks have been mailed.
