Fountain Hills Town Council approves contract with Universal Waste Services

New contract starts January 2027

After a lengthy and fiery discussion that included calls for point of order, the gavel of Mayor Gerry Friedel and three motions, the Fountain Hills Town Council approved a new solid waste contract for Universal Waste Services by a 5-2 vote during its meeting on Feb. 17, making 2026 the final year under contract Republic Services.

Councilmembers Brenda Kalivianakis and Peggy McMahon were the dissenting votes.

Vice Mayor Allen made the first motion to approve.
