Fountain Hills Theater’s upcoming musical spotlights unsung heroes of 9/11

An upcoming musical at Fountain Hills Theater will put a spotlight on 9/11, but not in a way you may think.

“Come from Away,” written originally by Irene Sankoff and David Hein, opens on Sept. 11 at the theater, 11445 N. Saguaro Blvd., on the 25th anniversary of the tragic events that shook America to its core in 2001 and changed the course of the country forever.

However, this musical will be set not in New York, but Gander, Newfoundland in Canada, where 38 planes were diverted on that fateful day after U.S. airspace was shut down. The show will focus on the real-life experiences of both the passengers stranded in the airport and the kindness of the locals from Gander whose hospitality helped lift their spirits amidst an unthinkable tragedy.
