The Fountain Hills Unified School District (FHUSD) Governing Board will meet with representatives from the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation (FMYN) at 5 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 23. The groups will begin with introductions, go over an overview of the FMYN education division and FHUSD programs, discuss the possible addition of a non-voting FMYN representative to the Governing Board and more.
The two groups will discuss an April 2023 Tribal Consultation and FHUSD Superintendent Dr. Cain Jagodzinski will talk about projects and goals he wishes to accomplish with FMYN in the future. The board has discussed the posibility of adding a non-voting FMYN representative to its ranks for several months, and this will be the board’s first public joint meeting with FMYN representatives since July 22, 2022.
The Board will meet at 4:45 p.m. before the joint meeting to vote to postpone or cancel the meeting scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 1. It was revealed at the last meeting that Board President Jill Reed will not be able to attend on Nov. 1, and Jagodzinski would also be away but able to call in to the meeting if necessary. These conflicts are due to the board changing its meeting scheduele earlier this year, and all board meetings are held in the FHUSD Learning Center and are livestreamed on the FHUSD YouTube Channel.
