The Fountain Hills Planning and Zoning Commission will hear a special use permit request for a Dairy Queen drive-through when it meets Monday, Nov. 10.
The proposal will require the elimination of nine parking spaces to accommodate the vehicle stacking space for the drive-up window for the proposed restaurant at Saguaro and Palisades boulevards. In his report to the commission Development Services Director John Wesley said the commercial building on the property requires 41 parking spaces based on the size of the structure, which is the number available. However, Wesley notes there is underutilized parking in the general area that could be used for employee parking. He also notes some concerns about stacking for the lane and the amount of space between the order board and pick-up window (two spaces).
In a recommendation for approval Wesley suggests stipulating employees of the businesses park in the lot to the southwest of the structure. He also stipulates that the applicant resolve an issue with the Sanitary District related to the grease interceptor for the restaurant.
