Fountain Hills P&Z votes against residential density

Relates to avenue, business districts, setting vision over number

The Fountain Hills Planning and Zoning Commission voted 4-2 to deny amending an ordinance that would relate to residential density in the avenue and business districts as part of the downtown overlay during its meeting on Monday, March 9.

Commission Chair Dan Kovacevic and Commissioner Nick Proctor voted to keep the original density while Commissioner Phil Sveum voted no on what he called a protest vote. Vice Chair Peter Gray was absent.

The vote denied allowing residential up to 35 units per acre above the ground floor per lot, provided the average density per block does not exceed 15. It also denied special use permits for such.
