The Fountain Hills Planning and Zoning Commission has continued its discussion related to a proposed overlay zoning district for the downtown area until its meeting scheduled for June 9.
The commission held a hearing and discussed the proposal at its April 21 session, but commission members still had a lot of questions related to some significant issues. Parking, residential uses and commercial uses are key elements of the proposal where commission members want more work to provide clarity.
The Downtown overlay is part of the Downtown Strategy plan approved by the town council in September 2024. It calls for updating the zoning regulations to better meet a vision of a downtown that includes an active, vibrant Avenue of the Fountains, more employment opportunities, more mixed use including residential and the use and maintenance of vacant properties.
