Fountain Hills PEO welcomes International Peace Scholarship recipient

Local club recognizes Fullbright Scholar

The Fountain Hills Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO) recently held a coffee at the home of PEO President Debbie Murray to honor Agustina Amilibia, the recipient of the PEO International Peace Scholarship (IPS).

PEO has six projects they support for women’s education through active fundraising, one of which is the IPS which was established in 1949 to provide scholarships for women from other countries for graduate study in the U.S. or Canada, according to a press release.

The goal of the IPS is for recipients to return to their home country to utilize their education to make a positive impact and foster global peace.

Amilibia has a degree in biomedical engineering from the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba in Argentina and a graduate degree in International Business from the Universidad Siglo 21 in Argentina. She is currently a Fullbright Scholar as she completes her master’s degree in neuro-engineering at Rice University in Houston, Texas.

PEO International has assigned the DZ Chapter of Fountain Hills, one of the five sponsors to encourage and support Amilibia through her educational process.

Chapter DZ recently welcomed Amilibia to Fountain Hills as she told her story and her ambition to help others by applying engineering principles to design technologies that can enhance the function of the nervous system.
