A local nonprofit in Fountain Hills is aiming to pair volunteers with senior citizens to stave off social isolation and elder loneliness.
MyFriend, Inc., was formed by mother-daughter combo Sharon and Sarah Stewart in 2025.
“The reason we started this nonprofit is that my grandmother and great aunt were at the end stages of their life and in assisted living and memory care. We would go to visit, but there still can be this loneliness in between visits, whether it’s because the person is not as outgoing while they’re living there, they’re not interested in doing the activities, or out of their home environment,” Sarah said. “...It’s something that really weighed on us...Sharon and I are both Christian and we both felt at different times that God was prompting us to do something about this and so we decided to launch MyFriend.”
