Apparently not all new mayors are treated equally.
In the Dec. 11 edition of the Fountain Hills Times Independent appeared a tiny stock photo of our new Mayor Gerry Friedel, who won the election by a substantial margin. Friedel's photo was placed on the top corner of the front page, with a notation the article about the town's new mayor was inside on page 30. By comparison, on Dec. 4, the Town of Paradise Valley Independent ran a massive front-page photo, literally half of the front page, of PV's smiling new mayor. Glowing copy followed about his 10 years on the council with the remainder of the article jumped inside to page 8.
It sure feels as though Mayor Friedel is not receiving equal treatment by the self-defined nonpartisan community independent newspaper. Was it because the losing candidate in the Fountain Hills mayoral election was often featured in the pages of the Fountain Hills Times?
Mayor Friedel has a vision for Fountain Hills that is exciting and will greatly benefit our wonderful community. There are also issues and problems needing attention that the mayor is well aware of and will be addressing during his first term. This reader would appreciate more news about our new mayor and his council.
