The Fountain Hills High School girls basketball team has won 10 regular season games in a row, and they overcame their first fourth quarter deficit of the season against No. 12 Northwest Christian (11-6) on Wednesday, Jan. 17.
Junior Seesee Smith scored 10 of the Falcons’ 14 fourth quarter points and helped them come back from down 30-25 at the start of the quarter. Smith knocked down both of her free throws with 16 seconds left to lead 38-35, and then sophomore Taleigha Bonaha got a steal and went to the free throw line with 2 seconds left to play to win 39-35.
“They’re getting to where I want them to be mentally,” head coach Amanda Baca said. “Because if they weren’t, we could have crumbled after the seven-point deficit and not been able to come back, but they stayed the course. They’re bought into the system.”
