Many people will be preparing their Thanksgiving dinner this Thursday and what has become a popular way to prepare the main course is to deep fry the turkey in oil, but there are many hazards that can come with this method of cooking.
The key element to make sure the frying is safe is to be certain that the turkey is fully thawed, according to Fountain Hills Firefighter Jacky Caballero, who led the demonstration on Monday morning at Fire Station 1.
The bird should be completely thawed, just like it would be before putting it in the oven to roast, Caballero said. The old adage that oil and water don’t mix is perfectly demonstrated by this process.
