Approximately 100 Fountain Hills residents participated in statewide “No Kings” rallies on June 14 to, in the words of organizers, reject authoritarianism and advocate for democracy.
Organized under the theme “No Kings,” the rallies encouraged Americans to take action in defense of constitutional values, said Fountain Hills Democratic Club spokesperson, Dave Long. Participants gathered in various locations across Arizona including Flagstaff, Old Town Scottsdale, the State Capitol and outside Rep. David Schweikert’s office in Scottsdale.
Fountain Hills-based groups including the Fountain Hills Democratic Club, Fountain Hills Independent Indivisible, Liberal Ladies, Progressive Men and Flourish Fountain Hills joined the demonstrations, exercising their First Amendment rights through peaceful protest, Long said.

In Payson, a group of 50 Fountain Hills residents joined the Democrats of Rim County for a “No Kings Day of Defiance: Mile of Patriotism.”
According to Long, nearly 500 people participated, waving American flags and holding colorful signs along a one-mile stretch of Highway 87.
“I came for justice, but what I found was joy. It felt like freedom had a heartbeat — and we were it,” Fountain Hills resident Rich Gohl, said.
