Several major capital improvement projects in Fountain Hills needed to wait until the busy winter season ended in Fountain Hills before work could begin.
There are several projects to be completed along the Avenue of the Fountains median parkway that are now underway after the weekly outdoor market closed at the end of April.
Community Services Director Kevin Snipes reminded the council that a $200,000 budget had been allocated for improvements along the Avenue plaza. As of the end of the third quarter, $174,520 had been spent, according to Snipes. A root barrier to prevent tree roots from undermining the brick walkway down the center of the plaza is now being installed. Also, new outdoor power receptacles capable of accommodating the many events downtown are scheduled for installation. These will replace the old boxes where auxiliary “spider boxes” were plugged in to provide power from everything from Christmas lights to art fair concessions.
